Learn about the wool process, from the sheep to a final product!

Wool is a natural fiber obtained from sheep through a process called carding. Professional clippers cut very close to the skin with mechanical clippers. The sheep do not suffer, on the contrary, they appreciate the release of weight and coat for a cooler summer. Our sheep are shorn once a year, in the spring (usually in May). In ancient times, the day of the shearing was a big party with a good meal.

The day of shearing at Mas Casas becomes the wool festival, an opportunity to learn and enjoy this material and all the trades that surround it alone or accompanied by family and/or friends.

We offer the possibility of visiting Mas Casas Cruïlles on the day of the shearing, during which you can:

• See how the shearers work
• Learn about wool, its properties and its current uses
• Participate in various workshops for carding, felting, weaving...
• Learn about our sustainable livestock project
• Taste our dairy products
• Enjoy an outdoor space with family in our leisure space
• Buy our products around a sheep

 

Keep in mind that:

• Visiting hours are from 10am to 2pm.
• Outdoor activity. We recommend coming in comfortable clothes, wearing a hat and sunscreen.
• Activity suitable for all ages.
• Pets are not allowed on the farm, except for pit bulls.
• In case of rain, the activity will be postponed to another date.
• Free for children under the age of 3 and for children holding the SX3 card.
