SHEARING DAY
THE WOOL FESTIVAL
Learn about the wool process, from the sheep to a final product
Wool is a natural fiber obtained from sheep through a process called carding. Professional shearers cut the wool very close to the skin with mechanical shears. The sheep do not suffer, on the contrary, they appreciate the release of weight and coat for a cooler summer. Our sheep are shorn once a year, in the spring (usually in May). In ancient times, the shearing lasted for several days and when it was over it was celebrated with a good meal.
Shearing day at Mas Casas becomes a wool festival, an opportunity to learn and enjoy this material and all the trades that surround it, alone or accompanied by family and/or friends .
