Sheep dairy, from our small farm to your table!

To produce good dairy products it is essential to have high quality fresh milk. At Mas Casas Cruïlles we are livestock farmers and this allows us to control genetics, feeding and handling from our own flock, to get one sheep's milk of the highest quality and that it provides us with a greater number of nutrients. 

Thanks to the consumption of our handmade dairy products, you contribute to a sustainable family project and the dynamism of the local economy. We serve our products in reusable, returnable glass containers.

Our dairy products can be bought at our points of sale: at the workshop-shop in Bisbal d'Empordà (see opening hours) or at the farm-shop in Cruïlles (by appointment). You can check locations and times at “contact". You will also find some of our dairies in Girona, Torroella de Montgrí, Palamós and Barcelona (ask us).

In addition, in our store in Bisbal d'Empordà you will find our wide selection of cow, goat and sheep cheeses from other local producers in order to satisfy the diverse palates of our customers.

How do you get sheep's milk?

Sheep's milk is obtained during the process of milking ewes with a machine that fits the ewe's udder with a teat, imitating the extraction that a lamb would do. This teat is connected to tubes that take the milk to a refrigerated tank where the milk is stored until it is transformed into dairy products.

At Mas Casas Cruïlles we milk only once a day. We start milking the ewes after the first 7 days after calving, during which all the milk (colostrum) goes to the lambs. The lambs are always nursing on demand with their mothers until after one month, when they start eating solid food. We are aware that we could extract more milk by doing it in a different way, but we prioritize the well-being of our animals and handling them as humanely as possible.

What benefits can consuming sheep's milk bring me?

The main advantages of sheep's milk for our health are:

  • Moreover digestive than cow's milk due to the high content of triglycerides, which provide a greater energy value than cow's milk.
  • Themes nutrients and an 80% more than calcium than cow's and goat's milk, twice as much fat, although lower in saturated fatty acids, i less cholesterol than the rest of the milks.
  • It is very rich in iron, so it is ideal for people with anemia problems, and high in vitamin A, essential for strengthening hair, and in vitamin C, to strengthen our immune system.
  • It has an anti-inflammatory action and improves blood flow.
