Description

Sheep's wool is a natural fiber obtained from the process of shearing the flock of sheep before summer. After a cleaning process by a specialized company, the clean wool is an ideal material for making felt or stuffing mattresses, poufs, pillows, stuffed animals or whatever you want! Clean sheep's wool is sold in bags of one kilo.

The characteristics of wool vary according to the breed of sheep, the part of the animal it comes from and its age, but what characteristics does wool have compared to other materials?

  • Wool is reusable and biodegradable. Wool is a more expensive natural fiber than synthetic fabrics, but it tends to last longer and get better results. In addition, it is very easy to recycle and eventually degrades naturally without leaving any polluting by-products.
  • Much less energy is needed to process wool than to produce synthetic fibres, which come from fossil fuels.
  • Wool is made up of the same protein as the outer protective layer of the skin and works in total harmony with the body's own protective mechanisms.
  • Wool has a high hygroscopic capacity, that is to say, it absorbs ambient humidity when it is high and releases humidity when the environment is dry. This feature allows it to take moisture from perspiration and release it into the environment away from the body. In addition, this physical process releases or consumes heat, so on a cold, wet day, wool absorbs moisture releasing heat to the body and on a dry, warm day, it releases moisture and absorbs heat from the body giving a feeling of freshness This is one of the reasons for its extraordinary comfort.
  • Wool has a high resistance to fire. Wool burns, but at very high temperatures, it burns slowly and is self-extinguishing. Does not melt and does not stick to the skin in case of fire.
  • Wool is a great thermal and electrical insulator - it does not store static electricity.
  • The waxed surface of the fiber delays the absorption of liquids and therefore stains. The wool contains anti-microbial properties that prevent bad odors and has a self-cleaning function where the odors of the environment are repelled immediately and only by ventilating it in the open air, the garment recovers its neutral smell.
  • The structure of the wool, in scales, allows it, under certain conditions of humidity, heat and friction, to form strong bonds between fibers that create a dense frame (felt) without the need to spin or weave the fibers.

And after buying a wool product, what?

Wool has some resistance to bacteria and fungi, but these microorganisms can attack it if the wool is stored in a humid and dusty atmosphere. Below we give you some tips for its correct maintenance.

  • Cleaning must be done by hand, with cold water, or in the washing machine, with a wool program, without spinning. Do not use detergents or chemicals. The most natural way to do this is with a splash of vinegar. Keeping the water temperature the same during the wash is just as important as keeping it short. Once clean, you can dry it lying horizontally so that it doesn't take bad shapes, but never with the dryer.
  •  Wool is a natural fiber and is therefore conducive to the breeding of moths which can damage it very quickly. We advise you to be careful and apply a preventive treatment. For example, putting a few drops of cedarwood essential oil, cedarwood balls or a sprig of dried sage or lavender inside your cupboards and drawers.
